2002 Boys Finish as Silver Medalists of Ontario Futsal Cup

March 05, 2018

Richmond Hill Soccer Club’s 2002 Boys, coached by Diarmuid Salvadori, Donald Ippolito, Shahin Tarkavennejad and George Kourtis, were finalists of the U16 Ontario Futsal Cup, which took place at Seneca College this past weekend.

The boys booked their place in the final weekend of the tournament after they were victorious in their preliminary round match up back in February.

Our Raiders were placed in a final round group with Weston, Burlington OPDL, and London AGFC, and played one game against each team. The boys put on phenomenal performances in these three games and would end up going undefeated to win the group and secure a spot in the tournament semifinal.

In the semis, our Raiders were matched up against London Athletic FC. In what was a thrilling game, our Raiders flexed their offensive muscle scoring 5 goals – their second 5 goal performance of the weekend – to earn a place in the finals and set up a match against UMSC OPDL.

Our Raiders carried their quality team play into the final, but were defeated 5-3 by a strong UMSC squad and would come away with silver medals.

This second place finish is a remarkable achievement for our Raiders, who are enjoying an amazing journey this indoor season, as in addition to this Ontario Futsal Cup medal they are also currently sitting in first place of the Peel Halton Futsal League.

Congratulations to our 2002 Boys Green!
