2003 Girls Green Finalists of Gates Tournament in Rochester

August 1, 2017

Congratulations to Richmond Hill Soccer Club’s 2003 Girls Green, who finished as finalists of the Gates Tournament in Rochester, NY.

The girls, who are coached by Juan Garcia, played very well during the round robin winning their games 1-0 and 2-0 to move onto the semi-finals. The semi-final game was played against the Brockport Blizzard, and after a tight first half our Raiders were able to find the back of the net twice and win the game. This victory meant the girls would advance to the championship game without having conceded a single goal.

The final was a great contest against another Canadian team, the Seaway Valley Blazers from Cornwall, ON. Overall it was a hard fought match, but during the last 10 minutes of first half the Blazers were able to score two goals in quick succession. During the second half, our girls showed great character by fighting for every single ball, playing strong and getting opportunities on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net and would finish the tournament in second place.

This is the latest achievement in what has been a successful season for our 2003 Girls Green, who finished as finalists of the Scarborough West Rouge Challenge in May.

Congratulations girls!
