2001 Girls Crowned Champions of Collingwood Invitational

May 29, 2018

Richmond Hill Soccer Club’s 2001 Girls Rep team, coached by André Serero and Alex Shufman, went undefeated and were crowned champions of the 2018 Collingwood Invitational Tournament, which took place during the weekend of May 26-27.

This was the third straight year our 2001 Girls Rep team attended the Collingwood Invitational Tournament and, as in previous years, the results did not disappoint.

Playing in their first official matches of the 2018 outdoor season, the girls persevered through a weekend of scorching heat, high winds, rain, hail, injuries, and a talented and diverse pool of teams from across Ontario to win all 4 of their preliminary round games and book themselves a spot in the final. In the final game, our Raiders capped off the weekend with an incredible performance, coming away with a decisive 4-0 victory against Burlington. The girls remarkably posted clean sheets in all 5 of their games, outscoring their opponents by an outstanding combined score of 15-0.

Bolstered by a large and enthusiastic contingent of friends and family that made the weekend trip to Collingwood, our Raiders showcased their talent using their possession style of play, structure and determination on defence, creativity in the midfield, and clinical finishing up front. The players represented RHSC proudly with their maturity on and off the field, as well as poise, perseverance, and good sportsmanship throughout the weekend.

Well done Raiders!
