After more than a decade in the Richmond Hill Soccer Club pathway, Ryan Psihalos is preparing for the next chapter of his soccer career. The 19-year-old wing back has committed to Nipissing University, where he will join the Nipissing Lakers and pursue a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education under Head Coach Evan Phillips.

Ryan's journey with RHSC began when he was just four years old, before entering the club's competitive stream at 11. Ryan spent most recently spent the summer competing with the Raiders U20 OPL Men's team. Over the years, the club became much more than a place to play soccer. The friendships, team experiences, and community he found along the way are among the things he will carry with him into university.

"Some of my best memories have been training with teammates, going to away games together, and winning difficult matches," Ryan said. "The community that I feel at Richmond Hill is something that I will take with me throughout my entire soccer career."

That long-term development has also helped Ryan prepare for the demands of university soccer. He credits RHSC's coaching environment with challenging him to improve his decision-making, positioning, communication, and understanding of the game, while also teaching him lessons that extend beyond the field.

"My coaches consistently pushed me to improve, but they also taught me discipline, accountability, resilience, and the importance of maintaining a strong attitude during difficult moments," he explained. "Having the opportunity to experience different coaches, personalities, and coaching styles will help me navigate future teams I play for."

Ryan's development has also been supported through RHSC's partnership with PHYSELITE. He began training there 5 years ago, after being introduced to the facility through the club's partnership. Working with Asa Tam has played an important role in helping Ryan develop physically while maintaining his health throughout his time with RHSC. "Training at PHYSELITE has helped me improve my speed, stamina, and strength, which is something I take a lot of pride in as a player," said Ryan. "They have also taught me how to be a kind, respectful, and determined athlete and person."

At Nipissing, Ryan is looking forward to putting everything he has learned to the test. The opportunity to study Physical and Health Education also closely aligns with his long-term interest in sport, coaching, and athletic development. "It felt like the best fit for me both academically and athletically. From my first conversations with Coach Evan Phillips, I felt that the coaching staff genuinely believed in me and wanted to help me continue growing as a player and as a person," Ryan said of his decision.

Ryan knows the transition to university soccer will be a significant challenge, but he is embracing it. "I know the university level will be a big step up and a difficult challenge, but that's what excites me the most," he said. "I want to push myself against stronger players, continue improving, and help the program compete for championships."

From starting in RHSC's youngest programs to taking the next step into university soccer, Ryan's journey is another example of the opportunities available through the club's player pathway.

Richmond Hill Soccer Club congratulates Ryan on this well-earned achievement and wishes him the very best as he begins his next chapter with the Nipissing Lakers.
